习近平总书记指出,基础研究是整个科学体系的源头,是所有技术问题的总机关。为贯彻落实中科院党组关于基础研究的决策部署和要求,中科院宁波材料所于2023年2月成立“前沿交叉科学研究中心”,围绕研究所科研领域布局,瞄准国家重大战略需求和国际前沿科学问题,以学科交叉为特征,开展前瞻性、引领性基础研究,催生颠覆性创新成果,开辟发展新领域新赛道,培养造就一批有望进入世界科技前沿的高水平基础研究人才。
前沿交叉科学研究中心(以下简称中心)是以计算科学为牵引、以学科交叉为特色、中国科学院宁波材料技术与工程研究所直属的基础研究创新基地。中心致力于建设“AI+新材料”基础研究人才基地,以“人工智能赋能新材料创制”为核心任务,面向“海洋关键材料全国重点实验室”需求和材料科学前沿,聚焦重大基础科学难题,开展基础性、前沿性、关键性和交叉性的基础研究和应用基础研究,发现并应用人工智能在新科学发现与新材料创制方面的新动能;采取“小核心、大协作”的开放模式,探索人才政策创新,促进人才培养,打造新材料领域人才培养的“摇篮”和科技创新的“策源地”。
The Advanced Interdisciplinary Science Research Center (AiRCenter), established in February 2023, serves as a fundamental research innovation hub directly under the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, CAS. Distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach and powered by computational science, AiRCenter is dedicated to advancing basic research in "AI + New Materials," with a core mission of "Artificial Intelligence Empowering New Material Creation."
The Center addresses critical scientific challenges aligned with the needs of the "National Key Laboratory" and the cutting-edge frontiers of materials science. Its focus spans fundamental, pioneering, critical, and interdisciplinary research, bridging the gap between basic and applied science. By leveraging the transformative potential of artificial intelligence, AiRCenter drives scientific discovery and accelerates the creation of novel materials.
Employing an open "small core, large collaboration" model, AiRCenter fosters innovative talent policies and cultivates a dynamic environment for talent development. It aspires to serve as both a "cradle" for nurturing future scientists and a "source" of technological innovation in materials science. Through its dedication, the Center establishes itself as a leading force in advancing interdisciplinary research and driving progress in new material creation.
